Our Sandbox
Much like a sandcastle serves as the centerpiece of the shoreline, the Sandcastle is the primary center for communication projects, strategy, and collaboration within the Department of Media + Design + Communication at Roger Williams University. Designed with corporate communication in mind, the Sandcastle is quipped with industry-standard resources—such as Muck Rack, a leading media relations software—providing students with the tools to build real-world skills.
In the Sandbox PR lab, we are committed to giving back to the profession by investing in its future—training the next generation of public relations practitioners through immersive, hands-on learning. Students gain real-world experience managing client projects, developing strategic campaigns, and honing critical problem-solving and leadership skills essential for thriving in today’s fast-evolving communication landscape. By simulating the pace and challenges of the industry, we empower students to become adaptable, ethical, and innovative professionals. In keeping with our mission of accessibility and service, we operate on a donation-only basis, making professional-quality PR support available to all while prioritizing education and growth.

Providence’s unique landscape provides an ideal setting for our center. The lab’s strategic location offers students extensive opportunities for hands-on learning and research immediately accessible from our facility. Additionally, Providence’s central positioning among major metropolitan markets—including Boston, New York City, and Hartford—creates important connections for academic collaboration, industry partnerships, and professional development.
